Colour E Ink uses gentler colours than a tablet. Screen size still matters for comics and detailed diagrams.
Fixed-layout PDFs benefit from more screen space. Test your own papers, including scans and two-column layouts, before buying.
Pen support is model-specific. Scribe includes a pen; Libra Colour supports a separately sold Kobo Stylus 2. Clara models don’t support handwriting pens.
Supported Kobo models can borrow compatible library eBooks in Australia. Check your library’s service and catalogue. Libby’s Send to Kindle option is available for US libraries, so it’s not the Australian library route.
It’s an option if you want a larger reading surface and handwritten notes. Confirm how your PDFs import and annotate, and whether you can export notes the way you need. A reader doesn’t replace a laptop, citation manager or full study workflow.
